Hi, I’m Munara! A Uyghur-Canadian Writer, Director, + Producer.

As a filmmaker, I tell women-centred stories about choice, ambition, and transformation, within systems shaped by class and diaspora. I’m especially drawn to magical realism, Gothic, folkloric, and period pieces - stories that peel back the surface of reality to illuminate our innermost lives and reveal how the past shapes the present.

I’m currently working as the Production Manager for scripted television at Lionsgate Canada. As a TV producer, I navigate the many moving parts of production with a focus on protecting creative intent, championing diversity and sustainability, and fostering strong, collaborative relationships across teams.
